DELUXE EDITION : On PINK vinyl, with a BONUS 12" of two exclusive tracks and a download code. New 2018 album ... his first in 3 years! Shredding fuzz-pop 'n' treacly psych-funk from Ruban Nielson and crew. Includes "American Guilt".
Ruban Nielson has finally crafted the record he has been aiming for ever since the band made its debut. Sex & Food is filled with lush soundscapes, ambient trips, light funk, and lo-fi instrumentation. Luckily, the band uses their lo-fi ambiance to their advantage. Opener "A God Called Hubris" could have made its way onto Tame Impala's brilliant 2012 epic, Lonerism. "Major League Chemicals" and "American Guilt" have some of the most infectious grooves that the band has ever created. "Hunnybee" will have you on the dance-floor within seconds. "Chronos Feasts on His Children" is a gorgeous number that consists of Ruban's vocals and an acoustic guitar. The dark, moody lyrics make for an intriguing listen. "Everyone Acts Crazy Nowadays" was clearly inspired by "Can't Keep Checking My Phone" off of 2015's Multi-Love. Let's not undermine the fact that Jake Portrait's bass lines really come through here. Kody Nielson's extra Mint Chicks-esque production adds plenty of value to the record. UMO have created what they always desired; A modern masterpiece that glimmers in the light.
